Who we are:
Save Our Surf is who we are and what we do. We're a community of surfers and beach-goers alike who care about protecting the oceans. SOS was founded in Sri Lanka in November 2019 as an initiative to divert plastic from the oceans in a small surf town. SOS is now a global brand, community, and activism organization dedicated to saving our surf. We operate under the principle that surf brands should care about the oceans in everything that they do. We're on a mission to set the standard of sustainability for all companies in the surf industry and beyond. Every purchase removes 1 pound of plastic from the ocean. We work with Lanka Upcycles to process, recycle, and repurpose the waste we remove from the oceans & coastlines. Â
Founded in Sri Lanka
Save Our Surf was founded in 2019 as a charity to remove plastic from the ocean. Despite being a tiny country, Sri Lanka is the 5th largest contributor of ocean pollution out of any country. As surfers, we believe that it is important to protect this surfing marine paradise. In 2020, charity donations decreased, so we started selling merch to continue to fund ocean cleanups. We remove 1 pound of plastic from the ocean with every item purchased.
Sustainable Supply Chain
We are on a mission to be the most sustainable surf brand on the market. We believe that surf brands should genuinely care about the environment in everything that they do. That's why we have the most sustainable manufacturing process possible: using earth-friendly materials, low waste shipping, windmill power, and a zero-plastic supply chain. We will never compromise the environment for the sake of profits. Speaking of profits, we use the money we make to remove plastic from the ocean, not to get rich.
Removing plastic from the ocean
We're in business to remove plastic from the ocean. Plastic pollution is destroying surf ecosystems, marine life, and the oceans worldwide. Save Our Surf started in Sri Lanka as a charity to remove plastic from the ocean, and then created merch to fund the cleanups (instead of relying on inconsistent and unpredictable donations). The plastic pollution crisis truly is an emergency, that's why Save Our Surf's initials are SOS.
In 2021, we removed 3000 pounds of plastic from the ocean!
Community
We believe in connecting surfers worldwide to help save the oceans from plastic pollution. We facilitate community beach cleanups and activism in coastal communities. Our goal is to connect surfers who love the ocean and want to save it. We're stronger together.
